Keep Your Home In Tip Top Shape With These Cleaning Hacks

Cleaning your house is not always fun, and can be areal headache. However, with the following tips, you will not only have more time on your hands to do other things, but have a clean house as well!

Use Baking Soda to Unclog a Drain

If your drain moves slower than a tortoise, unclog it by pouring down ½ cup baking soda, then ½ cup vinegar. Cover the drain with a wet cloth, and let sit for five minutes. Uncover, and flush with steaming-hot water.
Hair-free clog-free drains: pour boiling water down drains once a week to keep them problem-free. Get rid of those annoying stray hairs on the floor by sweeping them up with a damp wad of toilet paper every morning.

Sweeping Solutions

Cleaning should always be done top to bottom. That way, any crumbs or dust that fall to the floor while you're working get picked up last. And believe it or not, there's a right way to sweep.

Odourless trash

Before you toss out (or better, recycle) your newspaper, use it to get rid of some garbage grime. Cover the bottom of your trashcan with old newspapers to soak up leaks and odors.

Harness the power of citrus to clean your microwave

Cut a lemon in half, squeeze juice into a small bowl of water, add both lemon halves and place in the microwave for five minutes. The fresh scent eliminates cooking odours, and condensation from the steam loosens random splatters that have hardened. Wipe away the loose stains with a damp cloth.

Antacids for the toilet Freshen the toilet bowl with effervescent tablets (antacid) in between scourings. Drop two in the water, let soak for at least 20 minutes, then brush and flush. A bottle of Coca Cola dumped in for one hour also does the trick. The phosphoric acid in this mixture removes rust rings and other mineral deposits.

Baking Powder and Lemon Juice

Combat mold and mildew on tiles and shower curtains with a paste of equal parts lemon juice and baking powder. Spread the mixture on the surface, leave for two hours, then rinse.

Vinegar to the rescue

For one of our most popular cleaning tips ever, fill a spray bottle with white vinegar to clean chrome and stainless-steel fixtures, and to remove scum, grime and mildew from your bathtub, tile or shower curtain.
